Old Generator Transfer Switch vs. Mechanical Interlock

When part of a home loses power but every breaker in the main panel appears to be on, an older portable-generator transfer switch may be responsible. Its individual switches can be moved accidentally, disconnecting power from a room or circuit.

In this video Matt explains why these older systems can cause confusing power-loss problems. He recommends a mechanical interlock that integrates with the home’s existing electrical panel for a better portable-generator setup.
